Drying

This series is an exploration of YouTube witnessing/fatalism/empathy. It began with a desire to slow down the imagery of destruction to the rate of construction. For each painting, an amateur video of the tsunami that hit Japan in 2011 was broken down into individual frames (10 frames per second). Each frame became a monotype by printing inkjet ink on the smooth surface of a sheet of transparency film, hand-painting the white spaces directly on the film, and finally, burnishing the wet ink and acrylic paint onto a single sheet of wood-mounted paper. This process is repeated up to 140 times on the same sheet of paper.
